Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the Study

The case of Hazing problem here in the Philippines are still continuing because of those fraternity who hurt people without mercy. Here in the Philippines, I think there are almost hundred victims of hazing because of joining a fraternity. By the way Hazing is an action or situation, with or without the consent of the participants, which recklessly, intentionally, or unintentionally endangers the mental, physical, or academic heath or safety of a student for your information so that you will not ask anyone what is hazing is. Hazing is one of the biggest problem of our country as you can see there are so many victims here in our country who unable to obtain their justice. Most of the hazing victims comes from a fraternity that has no heart and all they wanted is just to hurt someone. Hazing is referred to as describing the mental and physical strength of a person. Hazing is very common for us but others do not know that we have a law that hazing is against the law because it kills people, an innocent people. Even if there are so many cases of hazing here in the Philippines there are some people still willing to join a fraternity though they know that it maybe the cause of their death.

The reasons why people want to join fraternity, they just wanted to have a lots of friend who can lean on you when you have a problem another is some of the members of the fraternity are the one who have a family problem like broken family and others but others wanted to feel what to know what is this fraternity all about and some want to join because they said that when you are a member of a frat you were famous and untouchable but for me as a member of a frat I did not use that as my reason because my reason is that because of what is this for and what is this all about and also to have friends and more but still as a member of a frat I am not arrogant because of being a member but still I am who I am.

The Law that states that Hazing is against the law it is the RA No. 8049 The Anti Hazing Law of the Republic of the Philippines. Even if we have this law hazing still continuing here in the Philippines and the victims still increasing and still the victims unable to get justice because some of the hazing initiator are the son of a government employee and some of the member of employees of the government are also a member of that fraternity so that he or she do not wanted to embarrass his own organization or where he or she belongs.

The purpose of this paper is to tell all the people the effects in psychological and physical of hazing and just to show what are the disadvantages and advantages of being a member of an organization and to tell the people who involved with the hazing initiation that it is not good because it is against the law and they kill an innocent people who just wanted to be a member and to be a good friend.

Facts and Myths why hazing conducted

Facts and Myths why hazing conducted

Facts:

- 82% of deaths from hazing involve alcohol, according to noted hazing expert Hank Nuwer.
- Hazing is often about power and control. Hazers have a need to feel powerful and in control.
- Just because a majority of the members of an organization are not involved in a hazing incident does not mean the organization is not responsible.
- Hazing is not just associated with athletes and Greek–letter organizations. It occurs across a wide spectrum of organizations.
- You can never be sure you know the physical or mental background of an individual and what the effects of hazing for that person might be.

Myths:

- Hazing builds unity.
Hazing builds animosity between people and does nothing to foster trust, unity or respect. It simply   makes better hazers.
- The new members want to be hazed.
Really? Then why don't you advertise it in your Rush?
- I went through it, so they should too!
One class can break the "tradition" of hazing- it just takes some courage and integrity to do what is right.
- I'll never get caught or turned in!
If you haze, there will be a time when even your friends will have to choose between you and their integrity and well-being. It is in their best interest to report the hazing, no matter who is involved. Also, someone may decide to come forward even after college and you can still be held accountable.
- If they agree, then we're not hazing.
WRONG! Since peer pressure leads students to consent, the focus is on what you do, not whether they said you could.
- Hazing motivates new members to be better.
Hazing motivates no one. It hinders academic achievement, destroys self-esteem and causes emotional strain and physical harm.

According to the article the one that conducted the hazing are the one who is under the substance of an alcohol and it is true but still it comes from the writer and this article is not mine and it is your own thinking if you will believe or not.

The article have some myths all about hazing, the article said that they do hazing just to have a strong unity with their members but still for my own opinion we can have a strong unity without doing any that can hurt someone. The second myth is, a new member or the neophyte wants to be haze, but in my own thinking nobody in this world wants to be haze. They should done through this because I went through this this is the third myth on why they do hazing still from my mind do not use it as a reason to do a thing will hurt someone or can cause of his or her death. Hazing do not motivates new members to be better. http://www.umich.edu/~nohazing/facts.html

Republic Act No. 8049 Anti Hazing Law

What is the Anti Hazing Law all about?

This law is to lessen the numbers of victims of Fraternity hazing and to convict the person that was involved in the hazing because they do not just hurt people but they kill an honorable man for that just he or she wanted to join this fraternity because  friendship and for brotherhood but not for the worst.

Under RA No. 8049 there is an order of the hazing to be valid, and these are the following conditions that mus be complied with:

1. Prior written notice to the school authorities or head of organization seven (7) days before the conduct of such initiation
2. The written notice shall indicate the period of the initiation activities which shall not exceed three (3) days, shall include the names of those to be subjected to such activities.
3. The written notice shall contain an undertaking that no physical violence be employed by anybody during such initiation rites.
4. At least two (2) representatives of the school or organization should be present during the initiation. It is the duty of such representative to see to it that no physical harm of any kind shall be inflicted upon a recruit, neophyte or applicant. http://www.ndvlaw.com/anti-hazing-law

Even if we have this law the numbers of the victims if hazing did not lessen as I research at the internet there are more that hundred of victims of hazing but we do no know if there is some cases of hazing that we did not know or they do not report about the hazing.

In my own opinion we can lessen this problem we will just give the right initiation and we must respect also both human because we are all brothers and sisters, and do not harm other people because this is a sin and this is against the law.

Stop Fraternity Hazing

What is Fraternity and What is Fraternity Hazing

What is Fraternity Hazing and what is Fraternity?

Hazing is any action or situation, with or without the consent of the participants, which recklessly, intentionally, or unintentionally endangers the mental, physical, or academic heath or safety of a student.

This includes, but is not limited to any situation which:

• Creates a risk of injury to any individual or group
• Causes discomfort to any individual or group
• Causes embarrassment to any individual or group
• Involves harassment of any individual or group
• Involves degradation of any individual or group
• Involves humiliation of an individual or group
• Involves ridicule of an individual or group
• Involves or includes the willful destruction or removal of public or private property for the purpose of initiation or admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in an organization.

Fraternity is defined as a group of people united in a relationship, having some common interests, activity, and purpose. It is a brotherhood, as the members usually say, of people at a college or university usually characterized by Greek letters. For members, fraternity means brotherhood, unity, friendship, trust and acceptance. It means meeting new people, sharing interests and accepting others' as well. It helps in building confidence and character because they believe that a fraternity gives a certain kind of protection. It gives the feeling of security and importance. It is somewhat comparable to gangs as they are both organization of people. However, gangs usually lack purpose and acceptance to communities. Usually linked with violence because members tend to compete with each other. Unlike in fraternity, members have this humility to help each other out and protect each other from an outsider.

My opinion about Fraternity is that the Fraternity is not so bad at all but still there are times that this fraternity may help you in your daily lives. Maybe sometimes it is said that it is not good because of the war against fraternity, rumbles, crimes and others and sometimes it is good because they help their own community for the best for example in fiesta of their patron saint , they help to arrange things that they know and they can do. Some of the member of these groups are teenager students because now all of the universities and school here in the Philippines have a different groups. The reason on why these people join this fraternity is because they have a family problem or they have problem with money and some reasons are just to have friends but the truth on why they join on a particular group  is for brotherhood.

For me Hazing is the another name for bullying it is the action or situation which recklessly and endangers the the physical and the mental health and the safety of a student. There are so many victims of hazing here in the Philippines and in the other countries so that they create a law that makes the hazing as a crime because this action can kill a person because of physical harassment.
These law is the REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8049- An act that regulating hazing and other forms of initiation rites in Fraternities, Sororities, and other organizations and providing penalties therefore.
But still even we have these law, these law can't stop the hazing here in the Philippines.

Stop Fraternity War and Stop Fraternity Hazing.
Live and Let Live.

My blog is all about Fraternity Hazing, Hazing is not a part of an initiation of a fraternity because hazing is an harassment or abuse to a people that will join on a particular group.
I choose these topic because most of the college students have their groups or fraternity. According to them once that you are a member of a frat you will have many friends and I believe that but also even though you don't have a frat you can also have many friends.
I use these blog to know why some teenagers are very interested in joining in fraternities or gangs and what are the advantages and disadvantages of joining a fraternity if it is helpful or not and what are the consequences of joining these groups, who encourage them to join the fraternity, who convince him to join, and if their parents know that they are joining a fraternity.
